Community Engagement at UIndy

Published On: February 7th, 2018

With only just a few months experience at Joy’s House I have so enjoyed learning more and more about our relationship with The University of Indianapolis. As community partners, Joy’s House participated in their Community Engagement Fair. UIndy invites community partners into the student center to speak about volunteer opportunities within the different organizations. It was a great opportunity to meet new students who may not have heard about Joy’s House yet!

We work with a lot of students from the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Nursing Departments who know us well – so I was very excited to meet with students looking for service projects that may be outside the box! I spoke with art students who could work with our Guests for art therapy or come lead a new craft. I met two music students interested in coming to play for our guests; a great opportunity for them to either practice a new piece or play an old favorite. There were also a few football players looking for their service project for next fall!

It was also exciting to meet the many students who were familiar with the Joy’s House name but didn’t realize we were right across the street from their Health Pavilion. I’m excited to have new faces in the house brightening the days of our Guests in their own unique ways.
