Profiles in Courage: Mr. Dick and Diana

May 1, 2018

To hear them tell the story of how they first met is captivating. Mr. Dick knew it was going to be a good night. It was summer. He was eighteen and driving his blue ’57 Chevy. Let’s face it. When you are eighteen years old and driving a turquoise Chevy on a warm summer’s night, it can feel like nothing in the world is going to stop you. That is, until you see the one. He knew it from the moment he laid eyes on her.

Diana rolled out…literally, on eight wheels, from the roller dome and stole Mr. Dick’s heart with one glance. One look, one word, one touch to say hello and life changed for two teenagers in a small town so many years ago. And life has never been the same – three daughters, fourteen grandchildren, careers, service in the National Guard, homes and enough ups and downs to keep things interesting. After fifty years of marriage, they have learned that even when their bodies try to make them sit down, in the end, the only thing that really matters is that you had the courage to try to stand back up and if you are lucky like these two, you get to do it together.
