Joyful Giving: Joy’s Closet!

July 17, 2017

Joy’s House is blessed to be surrounded by an abundance of supporters in the community, and it is for that reason that we want to do something to give back to the people who make it all possible. We are excited to announce the first event in our new Joyful Giving Project. The mission of this program is to give our Guests the opportunity to volunteer and give to others, without leaving the comfort of their second home, Joy’s House.

The first “project” will be Joy’s Closet. We will gather donations of clothing and accessories and sell them in a thrift store style event. Our Guests have been hard at work making signs and sorting items to showcase their volunteer skills for a worthy cause!

Acceptable donated items include gently used adult winter and summer clothing, accessories such as scarves, watches, hats and shoes. Donations can be dropped off at either Joy’s House location and are greatly appreciated.

Joy’s Closet will be held on Friday, July 21, 4-6 pm at the Joy’s House Broad Ripple location. If possible, please park along Burlington Avenue and use the side entrance to ensure that our Guests are able to use the main entrance. Donations can be dropped off during the week of July 14-20 at the reception desk.

Proceeds and remaining items will be donated to The Julian Center, an organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence.

A study completed by Georgia Tech found that visual clutter is directly linked to perception in adults with memory impairments, meaning that full closets could be doing more harm than you realize. Joy’s House staff and volunteers are taking this opportunity to clean out our closets and would like to invite you to do the same. Please contact Bree@joyshouse.org with questions or to get involved.
