Introducing The Hau’oli Project Inspired by our own Miss Harriet, The Hau’oli Project is a movement to spread hau'oli (pronounced how’ooh-lee), which means “joy” in Hawaiian, to those in need of comfort and love during this difficult time. Joy’s House might not be open for adult day services during this time of quarantine, but we’re still here for our community. This is an opportunity to connect and support family caregivers - all caregivers in our communities - with advocates and resources, communication techniques, coping mechanisms, and self-care anecdotes to assist them at home with guidance and grace.
Who is needed and how it works:
During this time, Caregiver Crossing, the Joy’s House podcast for caregivers, will become an informative and fun video series to bring information, joy, and resources to family caregivers and Joy’s House supporters. Click here to watch our Caregiver Crossing videos, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel.
Want to get involved?
For Family Caregivers: Are you a family caregiver who is feeling overwhelmed? Do you know anyone (family/friend/co-worker) who is caring for a loved one during this time of isolation and social distancing? Could they use extra support? We can help. Sign up to receive support from a screened and trusted advocate. Click here to complete the family caregiver application.
Become a Caregiver Advocate: We are looking for advocates to be connected with caregivers in our community and provide joy, comfort and support, in whatever way that may look for that person. It could be delivering meals, sending a small gift, becoming pen pals, playing a game on FaceTime, attending a virtual church service together, doing yoga together on Zoom – the sky is the limit! All advocates will be thoroughly screened, including a background check, to ensure the utmost safety for our caregivers. Click here to complete the application to become an advocate and spread joy and comfort to a family caregiver.
Spread hau'oli: Your gifts make a difference in the lives of Joy’s House Guests and families. A $25 donation helps cover the cost of a CARE Kit for a family caregiver. Learn more about how your gifts are helping us keep families together at joyshouse.org.
