Who comes to visit as a Guest?
We host Guests (clients) who either can’t stay home alone (many are living with early stages Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, are recovering from strokes, have diagnosed mental challenges, etc.) and adults who are simply getting older. Maybe they can’t stay home alone due to health and safety concerns. Maybe they like to keep busy and participate in activities. And quite simply, maybe they are looking for some excitement in their days and something to call their own. That’s what Joy’s House is – a safe and loving community devoted to comfort and care.
What are admission requirements?
When someone calls in to inquire about services, we have a very natural and simple conversation over the phone. We can usually tell by the conversation if the potential Guest sounds like he or she might be a good fit at Joy's House. We encourage the family to stop by and take a tour at their convenience. If they are interested in what they see, we invite the family to visit Joy's House and participate in a more formal assessment. And if Joy’s House isn’t the right fit, we do everything in our power to make sure that they receive the proper care from another venue.
Our formal criteria are fairly simple. Is the potential Guest over the age of 18? Is he or she able to take care of basic needs? If medication is needed while visiting Joy's House, can medication be swallowed without assistance? You see, while we are all trained in CPR, First Aid and transferring, we are a social model adult day service and not a medical facility. However, most families respond by telling us that they are not trained medically either and yet, they care for their loved one the majority of the day. That makes good sense to us. After an assessment, if both parties decide we are a good fit for each other, there’s a few small items of paperwork to complete, and then the adult becomes our Guest!
What are the fees for services?
The daily fee at Joy’s House is $65. This includes lunch, snacks, extra care and all activity items. There are no hidden costs. A half day (up to four hours) is $45. A lunch on a half day would be an additional $5. And as always, we want all families to know that we don’t want finances to stop you from coming to Joy’s House. If money is an issue, let’s talk and we will do everything in our power to make sure that we can work together through our Guest Scholarship Program.
Do I have to come every day?
We have some Guests who stay with us each day; some visit once a week; some come once a month; it is up to your needs. We have a reservation process with a cancellation policy, but the attendance schedule is up to our Guests and their caregiver(s).
Is there a large community need for this service?
It is unbelievable! Statistics show that one out of every four persons is a caregiver for a loved one. This affects everyone involved—the aging adult, the caregiver, the caregiver’s employer and the community at large. Joy’s House is focused on helping in all of these areas. The Guest gets to enjoy visits and is in a safe environment, the caregiver gets mental and physical relief, the employer gets a more attentive and less stressed employee and the public receives educational opportunities through our community programming.
